a fur for all season
apparently there is a 'fur' district in toronto and my place of work sits right on the edge of it . the fur district thing is weird in and of itself, yes, since it would really seem more appropriately located on like the hudson river about 100 years ago but then, i doubt early 20th century settlers were as obsessed with the neighbourhoodization thing as contemporary torontonians. i am as guilty of it as anyone - i constantly refer to my home as being 'in the annex' though the boundaries of that and every neighbourhood are nebulous if not downright arbitrary. before i moved into the illustrious annex i used to tell everyone i lived in greektown when really it was more accurate to say i lived in drunk and intermittently threatening people of irrelevant ethnic descent town but i don't think that would fit on city hall's cute little sign posts.
circling back in a wide wide loop to the fur district: one of the sad seedy remnants of toronto's little-celebrated but presumably highly influential 'fur boom' is called 'four seasons fur'. and i'm like....really. everytime i pass it. really? four seasons ...oooooookay. i had to restrain myself last summer during the drop an egg on the sidewalk and try to sense it frying through the smog that is choking out all your senses heatwave from going in there and being all 'sock it to me, four season fur. what do you recommend in a mink when it's so hot out that half the city just removed every hair they could find on their body with tweezers and the other half is competing to see whose air conditioner can contribute the most to Blackout 2005? ohhh...a stole. lovely!'
four seasons my sweaty hairless ass. and the award for too much information...goes to me. thank you. i'd like to thank my publicist.
